As a former felony trial Assistant State’s Attorney and General Counsel to the Illinois Senate Judiciary Committee, Attorney Dan Rippy possesses the knowledge, trial experience, and insight into new legislation needed for superior representation in our local courtrooms.
Attorney Rippy is a graduate of the Virginia Military Institute and received his law degree from DePaul University. Attorney Rippy immediately began his legal career as an Assistant Corporation Counsel where he conducted hearings for the City of Chicago on a daily basis in the Cook County Circuit Court system. His experience heard a multitude of traffic matters in the highest volume court systems in th Nation, which allowed him to build a foundation for his present experience dealing with our local high volume courtrooms.
Attorney Rippy was hired as a Will County Assistant State’s Attorney in 2000 and was assigned to the Misdemeanor Division, which included his handling of hundreds of cases involving driving under the influence of alcohol, domestic battery, possession of narcotics, and other traffic related offenses. He was then promoted to the Grand Jury Division where his responsibility was to analyze cases presented by local police departments for prosecution. Attorney Rippy also did extensive work before various Will County Grand Juries dealing with homicides, sexual assaults, and other various violent and non-violent felony offenses.
In early 2002, Attorney Rippy was again promoted to the Felony Division where he began handling some of the County’s most important cases. In his capacity as a narcotics prosecutor, Attorney Rippy was responsible for prosecuting the largest cocaine seizure to date involving over 2,000 kilograms of cocaine and $4 million in cash.
In Late 2004, the Illinois Senate Judiciary Committee recruited Attorney Rippy as General Counsel. His duties included the creation and drafting of numerous criminal legislation including the Methamphetamine Precursor Control Act, revisions of laws involving intoxicated drivers, and identity theft revisions.
Attorney Rippy was also a staff member on the Death Penalty Reform Committee, and the C.L.E.A.R. Commission, which was responsible for rewriting the Illinois Criminal Code of 1963.Attorney Rippy joined the Law Office of Jeff Tomczak in 2007 as an attorney specializing in criminal defense, administrative hearings, and civil litigation.
Attorney Rippy is married and resides in Plainfield, Illinois.
