Anna Bertani

Attorney

Anna is a third-generation Will County Attorney who was born and raised in Joliet.
Anna’s Father, Matthew Bertani was a Will County Judge for 14 years and was then
appointed as a Justice to the Illinois Third District Appellate Court in December of
2024. Her grandfather, Louis Bertani was a trial attorney and then continued on to
be the State’s Attorney of Will County from 1968 to 1972. Lastly, her aunt, Amy
Bertani-Tomczak, is the currently the Presiding Chief Felony Judge of Will County.

Anna graduated from Joliet Catholic Academy in 2012 after high school, she went
on to study at the University of Wyoming. Where she double majored in Animal
Science with an emphasis on Veterinary Science and Microbiology. She was a
member of the Horse Judging Team and participated in competitions at the
American Quarter Horse World’s in Tulsa, Oklahoma and the American Quarter
Horse Congress in Colombus, Ohio. In 2016, she graduated from the University of
Wyoming and obtained her Bachelor of Science with Honors.

Prior to beginning law school, Anna held serving jobs at Chicago Street Pub and
Barolo Ristorante in Joliet. She also worked for Will County Attorney, Frank
Andreano at his law firm as a law clerk. Then in 2018, Anna decided it was time to
follow her passion and attend law school at Chicago-Kent College of Law. During
her time in law school Anna worked for Professor Lori Andrews. Anna assisted
with her research and wrote numerous memorandums focusing on the intersection
of law and technology with an emphasis on women and women’s health.

In the summer of 2019, Anna was a Judicial Extern at the Will County Courthouse.
From there she began working for Malman Law in Chicago in January 2020 as a
law clerk. She worked with Malman Law until August 2020. Anna also obtained
her 7/11 license and was able to 7/11 with the Will County Public Defender’s Office
in July of 2020. During her time there, she represented numerous defendants
under the supervision several of Assistant Public Defenders. She tried multiple
misdemeanor cases and argued numerous motions in hearings.

After Anna graduated with her Juris Doctorate Magna Cum Laude and Order of
the Coif from Chicago-Kent College of Law in 2021, Anna spent her summer
studying for the Illinois Bar Exam which she successfully passed in October of
2021. After passing the Bar, Anna accepted a position as an Assistant Public
Defender at the Will County Public Defender’s Office. She continued to advocate
for her clients and participated in several felony trials, including a First-Degree
Murder Bench Trial. Following her time at the Will County Public Defender’s
Office she decided to make a career change and join the Tomczak Law Group in
September of 2024.

When Anna is not at the office fighting for her clients, she loves spending time with
her two dogs, Pete and Sonny, reading books, running races, and baking. During
the summer time, Anna enjoys hanging out at her family’s cabin on the Kankakee
River. Recently Anna has found a new passion for the game of golf and delights in
representing the office and golf outings.
